Cheyne’s Habib Quits For Kazakh Private Equity Gig

Cem Habib, a partner and head of the fund of hedge funds business at Cheyne Capital, has left the firm to join an investment bank in Kazakhstan.

Habib told Reuters that he will work on private equity deals “in the financial space in Kazakhstan,” although the socially-active Turkish native will remain based in London. Habib, who left London-based Cheyne last month, would not identify the bank he would be working for.

Habib became a partner at Cheyne last year, when the US$5 billion hedge fund acquired his fund of funds firm, Altedge Capital.

Chris Goekjian, Cheyne’s chief investment officer and Habib’s co-portfolio manager, will remain at the funds’ helm. Lead analyst Brendan Campbell will assist.
